There can be few sights more humiliating for the American people than that of a US president kowtowing to a foreign leader or to supranational institutions. Continental Europeans are used to this sort of thing after decades of dominance by unelected bureaucrats in Brussels, and have grudgingly accepted over time the gradual and undemocratic erosion of their freedoms. But most Americans fiercely defend their national sovereignty, and find the idea of giving international organisations a say over their laws and lives completely unacceptable.

The Obama administration however has submitted a report to the UN Commissioner on Human Rights, South African judge Navanethem Pillay, which makes direct reference to a popular Arizona immigration law aimed at tackling illegal immigration, which is fiercely opposed by the White House, and is the subject of legal action by the Justice Department. The report references

A recent Arizona law, S.B. 1070, (which) has generated significant attention and debate at home and around the world. The issue is being addressed in a court action that argues that the federal government has the authority to set and enforce immigration law. That action is ongoing; parts of the law are currently enjoined.

The highly controversial reference to the Arizona law serves only one purpose – to gain UN and international support for the Obama administration’s position in the face of mounting opposition from Arizona legislators and a majority of the American people. A recent Rasmussen poll showed 61 percent of Americans backing Arizona-style laws for their own states, and just 28 percent supporting a Justice Department challenge .

By doing so, Obama officials undoubtedly hope to stir up international condemnation of the Arizona policy in advance of the UN General Assembly meetings in September, which they believe will increase pressure on Arizona to back down. It is a highly cynical move that speaks volumes about the Obama team’s willingness to undercut American sovereignty and popular will on the world stage.

This approach has rightly been strongly condemned by Arizona Governor Jan Brewer, who described the Arizona reference in the government report as “downright offensive”, and called on it to be removed. The State Department has just announced that it will stand by its decision to include Arizona in its UN submission, with Secretary of State Hillary Clinton strongly in favour of it.

It is important to note that the Obama administration’s report to the United Nations will go before the UN Human Rights Council, which includes in its current membership some of the world’s worst human rights abusers. The likes of China, Cuba, Libya, Russia, and Saudi Arabia, will have a right to pass judgment over the Arizona immigration law, a humiliation for a great superpower before some of the most brutal regimes on the face of the earth.

Over the course of the last 19 months, Barack Obama has bowed before Emperors and Kings, and apologised for his country on numerous occasions, from Cairo to Strasbourg. By deliberately placing the immigration policy of a US state before the Human Rights Council, he is now bowing before the United Nations, and undercutting the sovereignty of his own nation. This is not leadership but a surrender of US interests before a declining world body that is a hotbed of anti-Americanism, and a bully pulpit for many of the world’s most odious tyrants. It is also yet another example of an imperial-style presidency that is increasingly out of touch with the American people and public opinion.

I recently went on a field trip with my son’s elementary school to Washington, D.C. We took them to the National Archives to see the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution and the Bill of Rights. They went to the Capitol and learned a little about how Congress works and to the Supreme Court building to see where our highest courts sits and interprets our laws. We then moved onto the Vietnam, Lincoln and Jefferson Memorials. It was so exciting to watch all these young minds take in what is so absolutely astounding about how our country came together and how it works today. So much eagerness to hear and learn about the important threads that have been weaved together to make this such a special place to live. They all learned and recited the phrase E Pluribus Unum and the translation. It was such a great thing to hear young voices say.

From many, one. This is a phrase that Barack Obama may have seen, but clearly doesn’t care to understand it. Three little words represent so much about this country. Our president is supposed to understand this. Our President is supposed to understand that he is the leader of our country and as it he should listen to the people that he represents. E Plubis Unum does not mean from many, one to do what he wants. Yet, this is the way that Barack Obama operates. He has taken the great stature and privilege of being the leader of the United States of America down to a level that has never been seen before. The blaming, the arrogant flippant remarks about those that disagree with him, the name-calling, the forcing of legislation that the majority in the country clearly does not want, the constant use of a crisis as a chance to push his agenda, his desire to force his will on states that have a right to protect themselves, his indifference to states that are in need of government help, the lack of understanding he has of our enemies, his “chip on the shoulder” approach to our allies, the rewarding of his buddies and ideological friends with positions high in his administration, and his complete inability for even one second to understand the mind, beliefs and daily struggles of everyday Americans are examples of his disdain for this country and the people who live in it.

I have yet to see anything that I would be proud of that he has done as our President. I did not vote for him, but he is our President, and I have tried to find something that I can stand with him on. I have nothing. I am not the only one who feels this way and this feeling is not only in those that did not vote for him, but now in many that did. What makes this so sad, and such a dark time for our country is Barack Obama doesn’t care about that. What he wants is all that matters to him and he will get it however he can, even if he destroys the United States in the process.

We must remember E Pluribus Unum. From many, one great nation was formed. Now we must understand from many, one great nation can be saved.

From Breitbart we read:

President Barack Obama mocked Republicans’ campaign to try to repeal his new health care law, saying Thursday they should “Go for it” and see how well they fare with voters.

“Be my guest,” Obama said in prepared remarks for the first of many appearances around the country to sell the overhaul to voters before the fall congressional elections. “I welcome that fight. Because I don’t believe the American people are going to put the insurance industry back in the driver’s seat.”

No, you’re right Mr. President. The American people would so much rather have the government in the driver’s seat when it comes to their health care. I mean, you all have done such a bang-up job with the Postal Service. How could we not be tickled pink to abdicate that portion of our lives into your capable hands? And we all know you have our best interests in mind because, by golly, you love us.

In response to Mr. Obama’s wonderfully comforting speech given in Iowa City, La Shawn Barber over at Michelle Malkin says:

The Democrats pushed through an expensive, expansive, unpopular bill opposed by a majority of Americans, and I believe Democrats will feel the backlash. So far, 55 percent of American voters favor repealing the bill.

Democrats are riding high, but over half the country’s voters don’t want the bill. And Obama thinks Republicans will face repeal repercussions? Conservatives in Congress should take their chances. Either way, voters will have their say in November. So yes, please, GO FOR IT.

Amen, La Shawn!

Listen, we are all adults here. It is blatantly obvious that come November, the Democrat Party is going to face a severely humiliating political bloodbath of Biblical proportions. President Obama’s blind arrogance and purposed intent to dismiss the will of The People and the efforts of the GOP to repeal his ObamaCare nightmare, are simply a case of him living in some Fantasy Land bubble. He maintains that he ‘welcomes that fight’. Please. Just like a defiant worm on a hook….

How macho will his words be when Pelosi, Reid, and a slew of his sycophants are nowhere around to defend him? In 2012, President Obama will begin a long two-year lame-duck presidency. And his repealed Health Care Bill will be nothing more than a bad memory in our Nation’s unfolding history.

“I welcome that fight.” Sure you do, Mr. President. Sure you do.

One of the things Mattera talks about is how difficult it is for liberals to sell socialism to mature Americans who have been around long enough and dealt with the real world long enough to realize socialism is a dead end street paved with broken dreams.

But it isn’t so hard to sell it to spoiled “brats who are high on Mary Jane, downloading porn from their dorm room, waiting for Barack Obama to deliver them a strawberry-scented welfare check.”

And with those opening words, Bob Ellis at Dakota Voice opens up his commentary on Jason Mattera’s awesome book. Michelle Malkin also endorses this great read. At the Dakota Voice link, there is also a video worth watching.

Now, I am hardly a “mature American”. I’m actually going on 42 this year, thank you very much. Yet even at this age, I see a huge, huge difference between my peers and the youth of today in their early to mid- 20′s. I don’t understand their culture, their laziness, their “entitlement” mentality. (Is this how my parents viewed my generation? Gads, I hope not! No wonder they looked at me like I was insane!)

The key to any good takeover or dismantling of a Nation is always found in the youth. Always. If you can sway the youth to endorse your mindsets through rewards, candy, free beer and weed, and the permission to behave however they wish with no accountability, you have won them over. Colleges and other ‘higher education’ outlets are easy, easy targets and highly focus-enriched battlefields. All you need to do is play upon the old tried and true, “Your parents don’t understand” mantra, and the imbecilic youth of the public school system will be eating out of your hand.

While it is true that the more mature Americans in or great Nation do remember life growing up that was harder than it is today, (from a technological standpoint), they are hardly to be so easily dismissed. The truths and lessons they taught some of us have taken root in our spirits and in our Patriotic hearts. I am hardly concerned with some 20-something snot-nosed weak man-child who still lives at home and has never held a real job as being a viable contender to challenge me intellectually, spiritually, or logically. How could they?

But Obama is no dummy. He will seduce these weak-minded fools and feed them lie upon lie to corrupt their already sensitive Oprah-watching psyches. It is psychological warfare at its best, let me tell ya. In our culture, with the lack of Fathers who would discipline their children accordingly, Obama has the ability and opening to come to them as a twisted sort of “Father figure”, and the youth of today will always respond to this. Always.

Like any good zombie-oriented horror movie, there will be the remnant of humans who will fight to the end for the survival of their species.

The Conservative Movement is indeed that remnant.

Imagine for a moment that channel 5 was a multibillion dollar media and Entertainment Corporation named “White Entertainment Television” (W.E.T.) and that it ran advertisements and ads championing the message of “White Star Power.” Or picture a congressional White Caucus in both the U.S. House of Representatives and U.S. Senate whose political agenda centered solely on the advancement of “white America.” Imagine “Historically White Colleges and Universities,” or the “National Association for the Advancement of White People, both organizations receiving federal grants. Or more pointedly, what would the political and cultural fallout be if prominent academic, religious and political leaders, business executives and entertainment moguls, etc. met at George Washington University to discuss the “White Agenda” and when the President was going to take said “agenda” more seriously?

Now of course these scenarios are all hypothetical but what if they were all-of-a-sudden the reality of today, in 2010? There would certainly be social conflicts and disorder everywhere.

Meanwhile, in totally unrelated news, Tavis Smiley’s “Black Agenda Summit” was held at Chicago State University and included a panel and among the guest were Minister Louis Farrakhan, Georgetown Professor Michael Eric Dyson, Jesse Jackson, and Princeton University professor Cornel West, to name a few.

Although the controversial event was overshadowed this past weekend by coverage of the healthcare reform debate, Smiley says he was still “motivated to host this panel because of the reluctance of Black leaders to hold President Obama accountable for problems that specifically or disproportionately affect Blacks.”

Really?

The reason why blacks continue to statistically produce numbers in unemployment two times as high and in academic achievement almost twice as low as our white counterparts is because for more than fifty years blacks in America have sold out and bought into the notion that because of America’s racist past the system is forever rigged, most blacks are poor, there is a racist at the heart of all whites, and that because of these things, regardless of class or opportunity, no black American should be held to mainstream, (white) standards of morality or “academic achievement.” Farrakhan, West, Dyson, Jesse Jackson, Tavis Smiley and an unnamable many more so-called “black leaders” are not willing to hold any meaningful dialogue on what are the real threats to achievement and excellence in the black community.

And even with the best intentions in mind and the most media coverage possible, the motivation needed to “uplift” and “advance” “Black America” has, and always will begin with blacks in America—not self-serving politicians and emotive policies.

But unfortunately, America is constantly reminded by today’s “black leaders”—who are ironically a disproportionately influential and affluent contingent; that blacks can’t possibly be expected to succeed in the face of such obvious systemic inadequacies.

Excuse me, but I beg to differ!

There exist a number of occurrences to take into account when considering general and specific shortfalls in the “black community” and among them are the following few:

1. Since 1940, rates of divorce and non marriage have soared among black adults, and, as a result, the percentage of black children born to unmarried mothers has risen from 17 percent to 70 percent.

2. Father absence has risen greatly in the last four decades. Between 1960 and 2006, the number of children living in single-mother families went from 8 percent to 23.3 percent, and 34 percent of children currently live absent their biological father.

3. Father absence contributes to family poverty and In 2003, 39.3 percent of single-mother families lived in poverty, but only 8.8 percent of father present families lived in poverty.

4. The Pew Research Center has concluded that 7.32 million American adults were in prison, on parole or on probation in 2007, a tripling over the last 25 years. That makes it 1 in every 31 American adults in prison, on parole or on probation. For Blacks, the numbers are a depressing 1 in 11.

5. According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control, blacks make up 12% of the population (36 million), but 35% of the abortions in America.

All statistics coming from: www.fatherhood.org

It doesn’t take a brain surgeon to see that the elephant in the room is that there is a lack of a real dialogue on the choices that blacks have made in regards to self improvement and empowerment in the last several decades.

And until questions are asked, relevant to the real ailments in the “black community,” no President or panel will be able to lift the plight of an afflicted minority.

Health Care has nowhere to go. Senate will not open its arms and welcome it. Pelosi rips out her hair and berates all aides who happen to be standing too close. It is pandemonium.

Okay, maybe not. But it was fun to speculate. The Senate will put this bill down like the rabid dog it is. So essentially all the crowing and strutting that Pelosi and her brainwashed and weak-minded followers did only makes them look…well…like liberals who were more motivated by the glory of being “the first to pass such legislation” than actual leaders who have the best interests of America before theirs.

Hopefully The Senate has more common-sense.

From AP

[bold emphasis mine]

WASHINGTON – The glow from a health care triumph faded quickly for President Barack Obama on Sunday as Democrats realized the bill they fought so hard to pass in the House has nowhere to go in the Senate.

Speaking from the Rose Garden about 14 hours after the late Saturday vote, Obama urged senators to be like runners on a relay team and “take the baton and bring this effort to the finish line on behalf of the American people.”

The problem is that the Senate won’t run with it. The government health insurance plan included in the House bill is unacceptable to a few Democratic moderates who hold the balance of power in the Senate.

If a government plan is part of the deal, “as a matter of conscience, I will not allow this bill to come to a final vote,” said Sen. Joe Lieberman, the Connecticut independent whose vote Democrats need to overcome GOP filibusters.

“The House bill is dead on arrival in the Senate,” Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., said dismissively.

Democrats did not line up to challenge him. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., has yet to schedule floor debate and hinted last week that senators may not be able to finish health care this year.

Nonetheless, the House vote provided an important lesson in how to succeed with less-than-perfect party unity, and one that Senate Democrats may be able to adapt. House Democrats overcame their own divisions and broke an impasse that threatened the bill after liberals grudgingly accepted tougher restrictions on abortion funding, as abortion opponents demanded.

In Senate, the stumbling block is the idea of the government competing with private insurers. Liberals may have to swallow hard and accept a deal without a public plan in order to keep the legislation alive. As in the House, the compromise appears to be to the right of the political spectrum.

Republican Sen. Olympia Snowe of Maine, who voted for a version of the Senate bill in committee, has given the Democrats a possible way out. She’s proposing to allow a government plan as a last resort, if after a few years premiums keep escalating and local health insurance markets remain in the grip of a few big companies. This is the “trigger” option.

That approach appeals to moderates such as Sen. Mary Landrieu, D-La. “If the private market fails to reform, there would be a fallback position,” Landrieu said last week. “It should be triggered by choice and affordability, not by political whim.”

Lieberman said he opposes the public plan because it could become a huge and costly entitlement program. “I believe the debt can break America and send us into a recession that’s worse than the one we’re fighting our way out of today,” he said.

For now, Reid is trying to find the votes for a different approach: a government plan that states could opt out of.

The Senate is not likely to jump ahead this week on health care. Reid will keep meeting with senators to see if he can work out a political formula that will give him not only the 60 votes needed to begin debate, but the 60 needed to shut off discussion and bring the bill to a final vote.

Toward the end of the week, the Congressional Budget Office may report back with a costs and coverage estimate on Reid’s bill, which he assembled from legislation passed by the Finance Committee and the Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee. The Finance Committee version does not include a government plan.

Reid has pledged to Obama that he will get the bill done by the end of the year and remains committed to doing that, according to a Senate leadership aide.

Both the House and Senate bills gradually would extend coverage to nearly all Americans by providing government subsidies to help pay premiums. The measures would bar insurers’ practices such as charging more to those in poor health or denying them coverage altogether.

All Americans would be required to carry health insurance, either through an employer, a government plan or by purchasing it on their own.

To keep down costs, the government subsidies and consumer protections don’t take effect until 2013. During the three-year transition, both bills would provide $5 billion in federal dollars to help get coverage for people with medical problems who are turned down by private insurers.

Both House and Senate would expand significantly the federal-state Medicaid health program for low-income people.

The majority of people with employer-provided health insurance would not see changes. The main beneficiaries would be some 30 million people who have no coverage at work or have to buy it on their own. The legislation would create a federally regulated marketplace where they could shop for coverage.

The are several major differences between the bills.

_The House would require employers to provide coverage; the Senate does not.

_The House would pay for the coverage expansion by raising taxes on upper-income earners; the Senate uses a variety of taxes and fees, including a levy on high-cost insurance plans.

_The House plan costs about $1.2 trillion over 10 years; the Senate version is under $900 billion.

By defusing the abortion issue — at least for now — the House may have helped the long-term prospects for the bill. Catholic bishops also eager to expand society’s safety net may yet endorse the final legislation.

Lieberman appeared on “Fox News Sunday,” while Graham was CBS’ “Face the Nation.”

Once again President Barack Obama did what he does best, told it the way it is, straight from the teleprompter. He spoke at a Naval Air base in Florida with a background of sailors nicely lined up behind him while he spoke. “I will never rush the solemn decision of sending you into harm’s way; I won’t risk your lives unless it is absolutely necessary,” he told servicemen and women. He added, “If it is necessary, we will back you up to the hilt.” Here we go on the Obama campaign trail again. President Obama has received much criticism for his inability to decide whether to send additional troops to Afghanistan and the White House answer to this is give a speech to show support of the military.

General Stanley McChrystal, in a 66 page report to the pentagon on August 31, 2009, requested an additional 40,000 troops in order to execute a counterinsurgency strategy in Afghanistan. In that report he stated that “success demands a comprehensive counterinsurgency campaign” and he also warned that “failure to provide adequate resources also risks a longer conflict, greater casualties, and higher overall cost and ultimately… are likely to result in mission failure.”

According to White House Press Secretary, Robert Gibbs, Obama is ”going to take his time to decide what is right for the American people”. Since receiving the troop request, lets look at what the President didn’t need time for in deciding what was right for the American people: a trip to Copenhagen to pitch Chicago’s Olympics bid, attending fundraisers for the DNC, hosting a Latin music night at the White House, creating a war with Fox News and appearing on the David Letterman show and all the Sunday news shows (except FOX) to sell his health care plan. These are just a few. There are many more events that Obama either hosted or made remarks at. While some would argue that these are duties that the President needs to attend, I say true, maybe some are. But I would argue that deciding the fate of the war in Afghanistan should be first priority. If you need advice and a strategy, then you get the advice, formulate the strategy and make a decision. Let us not forget that it has now been reported that Obama has played as much golf in the last ten months as President Bush did in his first two years and ten months in office. Obviously Obama does not brain storm military strategy on the golf course or we would have won the war by now with all his rounds of golf.

President Obama picked General McChrystal to be the U.S./NATO Commander in Afghanistan. I assume he picked McChrystal because his assessment of the war would be thorough, deliberate and his recommendations a formula for success. Obama has said that the war in Afghanistan is a “necessary war” and a “war worth fighting”. If this is what he truly believes than a delay of this long on the troop request is not “backing up our military to the hilt”. We now see reports out of Afghanistan that troop morale is down. Should they now be cheered up and confident because the President gave yet another speech proclaiming his support for our military? The American people are getting tired of the organized events, teleprompter speeches and all the photo-ops. It has become apparent that President Obama has decided his presidency will be nothing but a campaign trail for support of his policies. What we need is a President who is willing to lead and let his support fall as it may.

Obama says he inherited all our Nation’s financial problems. Okay, fair enough. I cannot think of a President off the top of my head who didn’t inherit the worst of their predecessor’s term of office. Obama wishes to blame Bush. Okay, sure. It’s not like Bush is still our President, now is it, Mr. Obama? It’s high time you and your sycophants realize that Mr. Bush isn’t in DC anymore, and America is looking to you to govern this Nation.

My contention with Congress these days revolves around money. They spend it like crack-addicts on payday. Anyone with half a brain knew this was going to happen once Obama took office: A majority Democrat Congress and a liberal Democrat in the White House? Yikes! Can you say plunder and rob? No worries, folks, we’ll just print another Trillion bucks to cover our bets, heh-heh, no problem.

It seems to always come down to blame, blame, blame with these yahoos in Congress. However, let’s be completely honest here. For once, let us reason together as a people of truth and fact, and not as a people of emotion, talking points, or snarky innuendos. Oh, who am I kidding? I just don’t have the discipline to not be snarky when it comes to you liberals and your idiocy.

Mr. Obama and this Congress have, (ahem), added to whatever mess Bush left behind. You know this, right? You watch TV and you can read, right? Mr. Bush left behind a 100 dollar tab. Mr. Obama has come in and made it essentially a 10,000 dollar tab. With the quickness, I might point out. Is this the emotional ramblings of a die-hard Bush disciple? Nah, not hardly. This is the observation of a fellow with more pragmatic common-sense than the majority of Congress, and more financial common-sense than a five year old, unlike Washington, apparently.

It is you, Congress, that is to blame for this current mess. It is you, Congress, who is responsible for adding to our already ridiculous Federal Deficit. However, it is me and my descendants who will have the delight in shouldering this burden of your political whims for quite some time. You have truly given me one gift that keeps on giving, thanks so much.

Instead of blaming the GOP, why don’t you idiots just stop spending? History is watching. It is not fooled. It is your arrogance that is adding to this deficit, and not the phantom shadow of George W. Bush, or the obstructionist silliness of the Congressional Republicans.

Article from NYT, October 16, 2009. Written by Jackie Calmes.

WASHINGTON — The Obama administration said Friday that the federal budget deficit for the fiscal year that just ended was $1.4 trillion, nearly a trillion dollars greater than the year before and the largest shortfall relative to the size of the economy since 1945.

The number, while lower than forecast a few months ago, underscored the challenges ahead in shrinking the deficit even as the White House and Congress are considering more steps to stimulate an economy that is making a slow recovery. The political hurdles to finding a solution were evident on Friday as each political party immediately blamed the other for the growth of the deficit.

The shortfall for the fiscal year 2009, which ended Sept. 30, translates to 10 percent of the economy, according to a joint statement from the Treasury secretary, Timothy F. Geithner, and the director of the Office of Management and Budget, Peter R. Orszag. For the 2008 fiscal year, the deficit of $459 billion was 3.2 percent of the economy, as measured by the gross domestic product.

Economists generally agree that annual deficits should not exceed 3 percent of the G.D.P., and that is the level President Obama had vowed to reach by the end of his first term in 2013.

But subsequent spending and tax cuts to stimulate the economy, and lower-than-expected revenues as the recession deepened before bottoming out, combined to push the administration’s deficit forecast to 4.6 percent of G.D.P. for the fiscal year 2013.

At 10 percent of the gross domestic product, the 2009 deficit is the highest since the end of World War II, when it was 21.5 percent. At that level, it already has become a bigger economic and a political issue than any time since the late 1980s.

Investors who are essential to financing the debt, including China and other foreign interests, are eager for signs that the government will eventually regain control over its budgets.

And polls show that Americans are increasingly worried as well, raising concerns about Mr. Obama’s ambitious domestic agenda, including his signature health care overhaul, that Republicans are stoking. At the same time, many Americans are demanding further help, confronting forecasts that job losses will not peak until mid-2010.

Mr. Orszag alluded to the administration’s fiscal quandary in a statement on Friday. “As we move from rescue to recovery, the president recognizes that we need to put the nation back on a fiscally sustainable path,” he said. He said proposals to help do that would be part of Mr. Obama’s next budget early next year, for fiscal 2011.

The 2009 fiscal year began last October, just as President George W. Bush and Congress were contending with the near-collapse of the financial system and working to enact what became a $700 billion rescue plan. After Mr. Obama took office, administration officials calculated that the deficit would surpass $1.2 trillion. Mr. Geithner and Mr. Orszag recalled that forecast in their statement on Friday.

The 2009 deficit, they said, “was largely the product of the spending and tax policies inherited from the previous administration, exacerbated by a severe recession and financial crisis that were under way as the current administration took office.”

The economic recovery efforts, through the Troubled Asset Relief Program for financial institutions, known as Tarp, and the $787 billion, two-year stimulus package, accounted for just under a quarter of the deficit, they said.

The administration’s calculation of a $1.4 trillion deficit tracks an estimate last week from the Congressional Budget Office that anticipated the data from the Treasury and the Office of Management and Budget. The actual deficit was slightly lower than each had expected in August, when the White House budget office projected a $1.8 trillion deficit and the Congressional office forecast $1.6 trillion.

The decrease from the earlier projections largely reflected updated accounting, including, Mr. Geithner said, the fact that “we are managing to repair the financial system at a lower cost to taxpayers.”

The Obama administration ultimately did not need additional billions it had budgeted for the effort. Also, several major institutions repaid their bailout money with interest, and other financial companies that have not are paying interest on their borrowings.

While many financial institutions have recovered — and prospered, as this week’s eye-popping earnings reports for JPMorgan Chase and Goldman Sachs showed — the persistent high unemployment, home foreclosure rates and credit needs of small businesses are keeping the White House and Congress focused on stimulating the economy. This adds to the deficit, rather than reduces it.

“It would be harmful to try to balance the budget at a time when the economy has not fully recovered and so many Americans are still struggling,” said Representative John M. Spratt Jr., Democrat of South Carolina and chairman of the House Budget Committee.

But on Friday, the deficit was front and center. The overall national debt, which is the accumulation of annual deficits, is nearly $12 trillion, and projected deficits for the next decade will add an estimated $9 trillion more. Administration officials say two-thirds of that is due to Bush administration policies — chiefly tax cuts, wars and the Medicare prescription drug benefit — not paid for with other savings.

“Today’s deficit announcement again highlights the fiscal mess handed to the Obama administration,” Senator Kent Conrad, Democrat of North Dakota and chairman of the Senate Budget Committee, said in a statement.

Representative John A. Boehner of Ohio, the Republican minority leader in the House, rejected that position. “It is irresponsible for Democrats to continue spending taxpayers’ money we don’t have to fund an agenda that would destroy the jobs we need to get our economy moving again,” Mr. Boehner said.

From Rasmussen Reports, by Howard Rich:

As much as the Beltway chattering class refuses to admit it, Barack Obama’s electoral victory last year had nothing to do with his oft-repeated, generic pledge to bring “hope and change” to Washington, D.C. Sure it sounded good at the time, but Americans have always voted based on their wallets and pocketbooks – not lofty-sounding campaign promises or rhetorical flourishes.

The real key to Obama’s victory a year ago – indeed his “signature” issue – was his promise not to raise taxes on the middle class.

“You will not see any of your taxes increase one single dime,” Obama promised tens of millions of Americans making $250,000 or less. In fact, candidate Obama promised the middle class billions of dollars in tax cuts, part of his whole “spread the wealth around” plan.

“If you’re a family that’s making $250,000 a year or less, you will see no increase in your taxes,” Obama promised. “Not your income tax, not your payroll tax, not your personal gains tax, not any of your taxes.”

Never mind the fact that Obama’s plan would have hit income and payroll providers especially hard, rendering “middle class tax relief” irrelevant to the millions of workers heading toward already-crowded unemployment lines.

No matter how you look at it, though, what a difference a year makes.

As an unprecedented string of multibillion-dollar government bailouts and a viral explosion of new discretionary spending continues to wreak havoc on the deficit, does it really surprise anyone to learn that Obama’s “middle class tax cut” was the very first thing to wind up on the cutting room floor?

Of course not. “Class warfare” may have succeeded in getting Obama elected, but it cannot pay for the political promises Obama has made with our borrowed billions.

But that is just the beginning of the great middle class betrayal. Not only are middle class American families getting no tax relief, Obama administration officials are refusing to rule out the possibility that taxes on middle class families will actually increase in an effort to help the government pay for all of this new spending.

So much for Obama’s plan to “bleed the rich” in order to fund middle class tax relief – now everyone must bleed as the President and his Congressional allies scramble to pay for all that “hope and change” they’ve created.

Aside from the obvious demerits of “Robin Hood-style” tax policy (it’s never a good idea to go after the people creating the jobs, is it?), the reality is that Obama’s now-scrapped middle class “tax cut” would have barely made a dent when compared to costly new government mandates being forced upon American families.

For example, according to an unreleased report prepared by Obama’s own Treasury Department, the cost of the administration’s “cap and trade” energy tax on the typical American household came out to $1,761 a year. On top of that, we learned this week that the latest multibillion-dollar proposal to “reform” the health care industry would cost the typical American family of four over $4,000 a year by the time the plan is fully implemented.

Altogether, that’s nearly $6,000 a year in additional energy and health care costs being heaped on American families struggling to make ends meet during one of the worst recessions in our nation’s history – again, with no tax relief to offset the additional financial burden.

Based on these numbers, it seems clear that the American middle class was (and is) nothing but a means to an end for Obama.

It also seems clear that rich or poor, Obama’s plan to “rescue” the American economy involves taxing all of us back to the Stone Age.
