A few months ago, my 11 year old daughter said she wanted a camouflage jacket. So, for Christmas, my brother, who is a former Marine and who served in the Middle East during Desert Storm, gave her one. It was a jacket of his, which meant even more to my daughter to have, with the American flag and the Marine Corp flag embroidered on the back with the words “These colors never run”.
When my daughter was ready to wear the jacket to school for the first time, I asked her if she understood the meaning of ”These colors never run”. She didn’t and I felt it necessary for her to understand the phrase because she lives in the United States of America and because if anyone asked her, I wanted her to know how to answer. I told her that it meant the United States and in this case the Marine Corp, although it applies to all branches of our armed forces, never back away from an enemy, foreign or domestic. I told her for me, the colors red, white and blue stand very strongly for the morals and principles of our country. It is a symbol of our people, our liberties and our freedoms. Figuratively speaking, it has never run together to make pink or purple as we as a country, so far, have not compromised our values or the Constitution that our founding fathers handed to us. I told her that the integrity of our flag and of those who fought for it, has stood strong for 234 years. She understood and off to school she went confident in knowing what it meant and feeling proud to wear it.
I don’t believe that President Obama, Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid and many members of Congress, both Democratic and Republican understand what this phrase means and probably don’t care to. After being lectured to by the President during his State of the Union speech and watching him talk to Congress and the American people as though we are all kindergartners, I was embarrassed. I was embarrassed that the highest office of our nation has been degraded to the likes of a used car salesman. Actually, used car salesmen are probably more honest that Barack Obama.
His continual blame-game of the Bush administration is childish, his constant class warfare rhetoric and banks are bad speeches are becoming very predictable, he has broken just about every promise he made during his campaign (the ones he made to make him seem moderate), he is spending tax payer money like a reckless fool and he is showing weakness to the world by his brand of fighting terrorism and protecting our country. The President believes that you, the American people are too simple to understand his health-care plan and that he didn’t explain it well enough. After all his appearances on television and all his town hall meetings, campaigning for the health-care bill, we still just didn’t get it. I wonder if we will have the pleasure of a weekly televised show like Alo Presidente that Hugo Chavez does once a week. Obama could spend hours at a time talking to the American people and, like Chavez, he could break out into a song or puppet shows to get his message across.
We do get it and we know that the promised C-SPAN broadcasts were never a real consideration, just lip service. We also know that what was important to President Obama and his health care bill was making a backroom deal first with the pharmaceutical industry and then with the labor unions. Now Nancy Pelosi wants to poll vault the health-care bill over you or helicopter it over you to get it passed. They don’t care about the American people and what we want. We are just an obstacle to them. They have an vision of what our country should be and they want to change it to fit their ideology. I know President Obama told GOP leaders at their meeting recently that he is not an ideologue, but he has made it very clear that you can’t believe a word that comes out of his mouth. They want control of this country and those that live in it. A dear relative of mine in Minnesota recently told me that her mother used to warn her and her siblings to beware of the lion in sheep’s clothing. Well, the lions are here.
We, the American people need to embody the phrase “These colors never run”. We can do this by continuing to speak out and by informing those who need it. I know that I have stated similar words in past articles, but I think it is so important to emphasize that the American people should be heard and that one person, one voice, one vote, does make a difference. We need to show these useless empty suits and pant-suits in Washington D.C. that we do listen to their words, we pay attention and we understand. Natalie Nichols, co-founder of this website, is demonstrating this by running for local office in her county in Texas. We need more people like her, willing to take on the issues, to get involved and do something about where our country is headed. For everyone else, we need to let those that hold an elected office know with our voices and our vote that “These colors never run”.

Hell ya…my colors don’t run. They bleed…they fight…but they do not back down. Nice job little lady, you hit it to the core!!!!!!!!!!!!!
WOW…keep up the good work, that was an amazing article.
Amen those Colors never run. Great post and awesome article
Kelli, thank you for reinforcing what we all feel…like we are being talked down to whenever this past professor of Saul Alinsky, this pew warmer of a radical church, this man who didn’t even do his job in the Senate speaks to us like we are his congregation. It is beyond embarrassing, it is ludicrous!!!
I am a member of a group that sponsors 3-5 informational tea party meetings a month around the state and believe me, there is a crowd of smart people who are not fooled by this man or his administration of radicasl at each and every one. We will not stop!!! We will not shut up!!! WE WILL VOTE them out!!!
The people, like the colors, are NOT running. We are planting their feet in the ground, we are informed and while we may respect the office of the President, we do not respect this man because of what you outlined in your article AND because he does not respect us. He may say one thing, but his actions are the opposite.
I hate to say it, but he, Biden and Pelosi looked liked pitiful fools at the SOTU address. The majority of Americans were buying his bull.
And while I am at it. Why was preaching to us about how we should act at a prayer meeting? And how dare him say that America was only benevolent in times of crisis!!!!
I certainly made some errors in misspelling and grammatical…writing in a hurry, I am sure all is forgiven there but I want to rewrite what I meant to say and that is: The majority of Americans are NOT buying his bull.
Now worries Joy. I realized last night that I have a grammatical errors in my post. Used “an” instead of “a” and I left the s off of Corps. Your words were understood, and that is what matters. At least you don’t need a teleprompter to speak and probably know how to say Navy Corpsman and not Navy “Corpse-man” as our Commander-in-Chief did the other day.
Thanks to all for the positive comments. It is nice to hear from all corners of our country that we are united in making sure that “Government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the Earth”.
BRAVO…BRAVO!
Did it again!! This is what happens when there is 2 feet of snow outside and you are cooped up with kids. I meant to write, “No worries, Joy”.
Isn’t it amazing that people throughout the nation, living in different states, living under different circumstances and situations, different genders, colors, ethnicities, backgrounds, jobs, religions and many other factors can somehow be drawn together by a single purpose, and single philosophy, a single thread that binds us? Unlike Barrack Obama and his ilk, we are drawn together by our love of our country, our liberties, and our pride in this country while he tries to rally the troops that swooped him into the Presidency playing on their worst fears, their victim mentality, and their inate disdain for our way of life and their wishes for redistribution of the fruits of someone else’s hard work and sacrifice? Isn’t it amazing that someone like Kelli can write a few paragraphs in her own words that could have been written by millions of us? I don’t think these elitists in power or the lemmings that follow them around for any scraps they might throw down for them understand the magnitude of what is happening in this country right now. They live in a dream world where no one has to work for anything and they are entitled to things that don’t belong to them. Why would we expect them to be smart enough to figure out what’s about to guess Massachusetts voters didn’t quite convince them of their follies. We’ll need a few more Scott Browns to make them re-consider the error of their ways apparently.
Excellent Article! Unfortunately, those words seem so far from our leaders minds. I’m glad your daughter can wear them with pride & knowledge with hopes that a new generation gets back to where we should be.
