From NYT

The Pentagon has moved to lift a decades-old policy that prohibits women from serving aboard Navy submarines. Women began serving on the Navy’s surface ships in 1993, but had been barred from submarines because of concerns that the close quarters would make it difficult to manage men and women serving together. Defense Secretary Robert M. Gates notified Congress, in a letter signed Friday, of the intent to repeal the ban; the decision was first reported by ABC News. The plan will phase in women’s service, beginning with officers aboard the larger submarines that are easier to retrofit for coed quarters. Because of the time required for training, it would be more than a year before the first women joined submarines, assuming Congress raises no major objections that slow the schedule.

Question from Donald:

With Don’t Ask/Don’t Tell being looked at to be repealed, and this new development with women on submarines, and the lack of solid leadership from the White House regarding our Armed Forces, is it me or does it seem like lately the Obama Administration is doing its best to weaken our military?

What’s next, rubber bullets for our guys in the Sandbox?  Yeesh.

    Wahoo!

    Women on Subs!

As a former Fast Boat Sailor (Attack Submarines) I remember after being on station for a lengthly period of time and the skipper reducing the movie selection to only “G” rated movies. Movies with fight scences and sexual content were banned.

Female company will do wonders for the morale of 19-25 healthy males locked in tight quarters, with narrow passageways and veritually no privacy! Hey, at least there are curtains in the bunks for privacy.

Hot racking will gain a whole new meaning.

Seriously? Men and women contained in tight quarters, high stress stituation for months at a time? The rebirth of a “Son of Gun” generation to be born.

I did sail on a Co-Ed Carrier, not the same environment. there was room for a co-ed existance.

Say, are the liberated college co-ed dorms rooms assign men and women into the same rooms?

    GO NAVY!
