I won’t lie: I’m not knowledgeable, at all, in regards to college football. Sure, sure, I mean, I know about schools like Michigan and Notre Dame and Ohio State and so on, but I simply don’t have the time to religiously follow college or professional sports at all.
However,…(you knew there would be a however, didn’t you), even as a non-follower, I had heard a thing or two about this young kid named Tim Tebow from the University of Florida. Actually, I had heard great things about him. And now it seems that all that I heard is true.
I had heard Tim was a full-on, really real, genuine believer in Jesus. I had heard he even put Scriptures onto his face during games. I had heard he was a nice guy who loved the game and played it very, very well. I had also heard he was majorly pro-Life.
Well, lookee here now:
MOBILE, Ala. — Tim Tebow’s appearance in a anti-abortion television ad that will air during the Super Bowl has generated some positive and negative buzz.
Tebow said he knew his decision to appear in the 30-second ad with his mother, Pam, for Focus on the Family would not be universally accepted, but wasn’t going to shy away from an issue that was important to him.
“I know some people won’t agree with it, but I think they can at least respect that I stand up for what I believe and I’m never shy about that,” Tebow said Sunday. “I don’t feel like I’m very preachy about it, but I do stand up for what I believe and at least you can respect that.
“Unfortunately in today’s society not many athletes tend to do that, at least stand for something.”
The ad’s theme is “Celebrate Family, Celebrate Life.” Focus on the Family officials have not elaborated on the specific content of the ad, but it is likely to reference the story Pam Tebow has told before of contracting amoebic dysentery while living in the Philippines in the mid 1980s. The bacterial infection sent Pam Tebow into a coma and she was treated with strong medications. She recovered, but doctors told her those medications had damaged the fetus she was carrying and urged her to have an abortion.
Pam Tebow refused and Tim was born on Aug. 14, 1987.
“I’m just standing for something and I’ve always been very convicted of it,” Tim Tebow said. “That’s the reason I’m here because my mom was a very courageous woman and wouldn’t [have an abortion]. I’m very thankful for that so any way that I could help I would do it.”
Focus on the Family is a non-profit Christian organization and its purpose, according to its Web site, is to “strengthen, defend and celebrate the institution of the traditional family and to highlight the unique and irreplaceable role that it plays in God’s larger story of redemption.”
The Associated Press recently reported that TNS Media Intelligence said 30-second ads during the Super Bowl broadcast on CBS are selling for between $2.5 and $2.8 million. Jim Daly, the president and CEO of Focus on the Family, said in a news release that the money used to pay for the ad was donated from a handful of benefactors and no money from the organization’s general fund was used.
Honestly, this is the kind of “role model” kids need in the NFL. I’m not saying Tim is going to the NFL, no. I’m more thinking out loud. The bottom line, for me, is this: Tim is the real deal. He says what he means and means what he says. He knows he will take some flak over this commercial, and readily accepts it.
I don’t know what the future holds for Tim Tebow. But I know Who holds his future. Godspeed, Tim. You rock.

Excellent article! It is not surprising that a Mom who does the right thing raises a son who does the right thing.
I wonder how many of my liberal coworkers will flip out (online, if not in real life) over this. I don’t watch football, but I’ll keep an eye on Facebook that day to see how many people I know there whining about it!

Unless you want to plan an “Anti Super Bowl ” where you can escape for a few hours, let the guys do their thing and paint the town red… the reality is most of us girls will end up at a Super Bowl (and you may even be the hostess of one).
This post was hands down an enjoyable read & I respect not crappy articles out there considering so much is the same thing. I know that in the area of site material it is pretty much King for the matter of getting a website ranked and so on (undoubtely why I saw this). I have worked with some webpages back when and am putting time on an online mini jobs marketplace kinda site for people to logon and buy and sell services to eachother. So I have to focus on getting some blog content and other stuff on the web site and so forth. So anyway take it easy and keep getting out good posts.
