headshot2 A press release (below) from Joseph Cao (LA-2) claims that his vote for HR 3962 was a “vote for “Life”‘.  PIN wonders if Cao was listening to the exchange in which Shadegg asked if there would be a guarantee that if the Stupak Amendment passed, it would end up in the final bill and not be removed elsewhere.  He was basically chided for even asking the question, and told that no one gives guarantees for anything on the floor.  Oh…PIN thought that at least some of our representatives might believe in a little thing called integrity, but maybe not.

Cao Votes for “Life”; Achieves Legislation to Protect the Health of All Americans

Tonight, Congressman Anh “Joseph” Cao (LA-2) voted in favor of the comprehensive health reform bill, H.R. 3962, the Affordable Health Care for America Act.

Of his vote, Cao said:  “Tonight, I voted to keep taxpayer dollars from funding abortion and to deliver access to affordable health care to the people of Louisiana.

Cao said:  “I read the versions of the House [health reform] bill.  I listened to the countless stories of Orleans and Jefferson Parish citizens whose health care costs are exploding – if they are able to obtain health care at all.  Louisianans needs real options for primary care, for mental health care, and for expanded health care for seniors and children.

The bill passed the House at a 220-215 vote.

Cao said:  “Today, I obtained a commitment from President Obama that he and I will work together to address the critical health care issues of Louisiana including the FMAP crisis and community disaster loan forgiveness, as well as issues related to Charity and Methodist Hospitals.  And, I call on my constituents to support me as I work with him on these issues.

Cao said:  “I have always said that I would put aside partisan wrangling to do the business of the people.  My vote tonight was based on my priority of doing what is best for my constituents.

H.R. 3962 included the Stupak-Pitts Amendment, which will keep in place current federal law on abortion funding and conscience protections for health care providers.

Cao said:  “Before the Stupak-Pitts amendment was adopted as part of this health reform bill, the bill failed to explicitly include the longstanding policy prohibiting federal funding of elective abortion and plans which include elective abortion.”

According to a letter from the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops dated November 7, 2009, “The [Stupak-Pitts] Amendment will not affect coverage of abortion in nonsubsidized health plans, and will not bar anyone from purchasing a supplemental abortion policy with their own funds.”

Cao said:  “Thank to the Stupak-Pitts Amendment, taxpayer dollars will not go to supporting elective abortions, and for thousands of my constituents, this was a top priority.  By incorporating this amendment into the health reform bill, my colleagues and I made this bill better, and that is an achievement of which I will always be proud.”

Archbishop Gregory M. Aymond, the archbishop of New Orleans, said:  “I am grateful to Congressman Cao for his courage and determination to defend life. I appreciate his work to prevent abortion from being included in health care reform and for protecting conscience rights of health care professionals. I – and, I am sure, many in New Orleans would join me – [I] appreciate Congressman Cao’s commitment to the people of New Orleans.”

So, you think Cao should have voted the way the Republican Party wanted him to instead of the way his liberal district wanted him to?

Because we all know that Obama has time to fuss about with some first-term Republican. This Cao is a useful idiot.

Cao could much more easily have accomplished what needs to be done in New Orleans through private companies, and he will NEVER get what Obama “promised”. There are certainly more than enough of these companies lined up and ready to deal, without selling your soul to them.

The Libtards are LIARS! They know right up front that what they “promise”, they never intend to carry out. It’s all designed to promote their Socialist agenda by
dangling “carrots” in front of naive’ first year freshman Congressmen!

Cao cannot point out ONE POINT on which Libtards have EVER kept their word.
They have the kind of track record that means you should NEVER believe ANYTHING they say! NO TRUST!

Cao voted “for life” by backing the amendment that would leave federally funded abortion out of the health care bill,,,an amendment which will most likely be DROPPED from the Senate version. Deals were made whereby Dems would back the bill if the Stupak amendment was included.

The staunch Leftist Dems fully intend to drop the amendment from the final bill,,thereby bringing feminazis and abortion backers back into the Dem fold.

Did Cao vote in favor of life when it came to seniors who will haveover $500 Billion cut immediately from Medicare? NO

Did Cao vote “in favor of life” when it came to the new IT position created by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, which will “monitor” doctors’ treatment of patients, pass that information to HHR Sebelius (baby killer) and those doctors who do not meet the protocol and “overtreat” according to the “score” appointed to patients will be PENALIZED=RATIONED HEALTHCARE. NO

  6. No Lisa, I do not like the idea of simply voting along party lines, just for strategy’s sake. However, Cao informed his constituents on Oct 29th that he was going home to read the bill and made comments, in a negative light, toward the bill. I may have just missed something, but I did not, nor do I think his constituents got, the impression that he was intending to vote for the bill. By all accounts, if you were to go to his site prior to his press release, you would think that he was going to oppose the bill. That is what I am tired of. I can see why you would think that I am all for party line voting re-reading my title. I shouldn’t have worded it that way. I think that it is quite obvious that the American people as a whole do not agree with this particular legislation, and the fact that he voted for it anyway is what gives me pause. Now, I’ve posted elsewhere, if he had come out in the beginning and said “I just really think this legislation makes sense and is good for us” then I could respect his difference of opinion. But that was not the case, and I don’t think he has shown integrity. I believe it was more of a tit for tat exchange and he went against his conscience, in exchange for something he thinks that he has negotiated–although I’d be surprised if the terms were actually followed through by the Obama Administration.
