When I first heard he was born in Africa, I thought --Why are they letting him run for office -- now I get it -- to destroy the rest of the Constitution -- duh!

He should be impeached and all of his idiotic executive orders and signed laws should be rescinded and McCain made president. But Noooooo, that won't happen. Why? Too much money is backing the little creep. No wonder he's for opening the borders and the world -- that way he won't have to worry his dirty little secret will be found out.

RallyeJo,

I'm not a birther either, but I also don't like it when facts just seem to be so contradictory. 1...The Constitution doesn't say natural born OR a US citizen--that's false. It says "a person must be a natural-born citizen of the United States..." ***edited to clarify what you must have been referring to*** It has a clause that says, or a US Citizen , And if you've been living out of the country, you've got to be a resident back in the states for at least 14 years, since the time that you came back to the states. (I'm not saying he is or isn't, just clearing up the Constitutional issue you raised.) *note that military bases, etc, still constitute a "natural born citizen" I presume because you are out of the country out of duty to your country, and not of your own volition.

There are MANY facets to the argument and ensuing conspiracy theory. The most compelling one is actually, in my opinion, whether or not the parents OF A CHILD NOT BORN IN THE UNITED STATES are able to pass on citizenship to their child. The non-birther argument is that his mother was a citizen, and so she passed it on. But the birther argument is that because they do not believe he was born in the US, and his mother was only 18 at the time of his birth, she does not qualify for automatically passing on citizenship. The reason behind this is because the law of the land at the time (which has since been changed) required that if only one parent was a US citizen at the time of the birth, that parent must have resided in the US for at least 10 years--5 of which had to be AFTER they turned 16. So if by some fluke a foreign birth was proven, then this would be the argument that would "win." Because in that case, his mother wouldn't have qualified to pass on his citizenship.

And then there are also those who say that because when he went to Indonesia they did not allow dual citizenship, so they say that he would have had to relinquish his US citizenship (which they say is proven by school records to have been done by his parents). Let's see...what else...ahh, the use of an Indonesian passport to travel to Pakistan in the early 80's and they say he was not "naturalized" after returning from Indonesia in the first place. And last but not least...his Kenyan grandmother is reportedly videotaped saying she was in the delivery room, in Kenya, when he was born.

And of course, "non-birthers" claim that none of this is relevant because of the birth announcement in the Hawaii paper from the date of his birth. Their claim is that someone would have had to foresee that he would run for President and plant the notice there to ensure his legitimacy. It is kind of far fetched. But still, I'm a facts kind of girl. I'd like to see the facts, supported by the actual long form birth certificate, just to shut up all the debate one way or another. If it really is a ridiculous claim, we should be concentrating on much more important issues.

I'm not trying to sway you one way or another, just trying to present what the arguments are that birthers support.

The grandfather provision of the "natural born Citizen" clause provides an exception to the "natural born" requirement for those persons who were citizens at the time of the adoption of the Constitution, but had been born as British subjects before the American Revolution (or were born after the Revolution, but before 1787). Without this exception, ten subsequent presidents would have been constitutionally ineligible to serve.

RallyeJo,

Hi. I am not really a "birther", so to speak, but I did have questions that seemed to not be answered regarding Obama and his birthplace and what-not. I found this particular article on a blog site and brought it here.

I did this because I read all the links. It seems obvious, after reading the links, that something is amiss regarding Obama and his birthplace. I care about this only because, well, if he lied about it and had news stories manipulated and "updated" to cover his tracks, then he isn't worthy to be our President.

Right now, to me, it's not so much an issue I am pursuing to have him removed from office due to birthplace, but moreso a simple look into his life to see if he has been lying to us from the get-go.

If it is discovered that he has been lying this whole time and had a bunch of people lie for him as well...hmm...well, let's just wait and see how this unfolds. I'm as patient as ever, so I am in no hurry. I can easily out-wait anyone.

In the meantime, however, YES!, let us fight the bad ideas, absolutely!

Since the Constitution says natural born citizen OR a US citizen, this point really is moot. It's like arguing that since he wasn't a citizen at the time of the ratification of the Constitution he shouldn't be President (read Article 2, people). I don't like him either, but let's fight the bad ideas instead of this straw man.
