This one almost slipped under the radar. Apparently, on September 17, 2009, Rep. Carolyn Maloney (D-NY) introduced legislation that will allow “certain” newspapers to claim tax exemption as described in 501(c)(3) of the IRS code. If passed, this would allow “certain” newspaper to receive tax breaks …as a charity!
H.R. 3602: To allow certain newspapers to be treated as described in section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 and exempt from tax under section 501(a) of such code.
The bill as it is actually written will factually modify and manipulate the IRS tax code to the benefit of newspaper organizations. An organization shall be treated as a qualified charity if:
(1) the trade or business of such corporation or organization consists of publishing on a regular basis a newspaper for general circulation,
(2) the newspaper published by such corporation or organization contains local, national, or international news stories of interest to the general public and the distribution of such newspaper is necessary or valuable in achieving an educational purpose, and
(3) the preparation of the material contained in such newspaper follows methods generally accepted as educational in character.
Who is Rep. Carolyn Maloney anyway? She is most notably remembered for using the “N-word” during an interview this past summer. Is it any wonder that she is a representative of the state of New York, the left wing media capitol of the world? Is their any doubt that this is a huge payback to the organizations that have previously supported her and the Democratic Party, yet find themselves on the verge of bankruptcy?
Political payback comes in all shapes and sizes. This is reminiscent of the $800,000 that Obama gave to ACORN to lead his “grassroots” campaign. Ironically, it is the same amount that ACORN owed the IRS for back taxes in 2008.
So let’s get this straight: The Democrats want to silence conservative talk radio, demonize certain cable news networks, and bail out the left-wing dominated newspaper industry.
I think that about sums it up…did I miss anything?

Yup. Since liberal media can’t seem to be self-sustaining in earnings, it appears as long as they educate (read that print the liberal agenda) they get funding off the tax-payer’s teat.
