Rep. Walter Jones (R-NC) introduced a bill on September 14, 2009 that would provide for an emergency Cost of Living Allowance (COLA) for Social Security in 2010. Social Security receives it annual increase based on the Consumer Price Index (CPI), which must be greater than zero for an increase to take place. Currently, the CPI-W would have to increase more than an unlikely 2.0% to get out of negative territory.
Republican are often falsely criticized by the left for wanting to abolish Social Security.
It remains to be seen if this will affect Veterans Compensation and Pension which also receives it’s annual COLA based on the CPI-W model.

A BILL

the elderly.and disabled have a hard time making ends meet and with insurance going up and no increase in income things are going to get worse. It seems to me what our US government is looking for a way to make things even worse for disabled Veterans/disabled and elderly Private citizens. I really think in our governments minds it would just be better to line all the elderly and disabled Americans up against the wall in front of a firing squad and shoot all of us. But now if your big business give them all the money they need to throw parities and get them out of the rut they got them selfs into dosen’t anyone besides me see the problem here??
We have billions of dollars to give fat cats on wall street, buy a car Company , give people to buy new cars and etc. But, we can”t give our seniors a cost of living increase or take care of our veterans. The thing that really makes me mad is the way veterans are treated by the VA Health System.
Obamacare is going to wreck the best health care system in world.
Everyone what voted for Obama said they want Change, now they have it!Seniors are going taken to the cleaners with Obamacare.
Joe,
I worked for the VA for nearly 5 years. As I moved up the chain into management, I started to see how numbers were more important than the veterans themselves. It’s all about production, as that is what the annual bonuses are based on…from the ground up! You don’t meet your numbers, you don’t get bonuses.
I will be anxiously waiting to see if members of congress pass a bill giving themselves raises in the next fiscal year.
I SWRVED IN THE UNITED STATES ARMY. I WAS TOLD OF ALL THE BENIFITS I WOULD RECIEVE IF I WAS DISCHARGED HONORABLY. WELL IT SEEMS TO ME THAT OUR GOVERNMENT AND CONGRESS DOESN’T GET IT. WE THE PEOPLE HAVE SERVED OUR COUNTRY AND SOME OF US HEVE EVEN GAVE THIER LIVES FOR IT. SO WHY DON’T YOU “CONGRESS” GIVE US BACK OUR COLA AND BASE IT ON THE SAME COLA INCREASE OUR MILITARY GETS.

I am a senior woman who raised my children for many years before going to work part time.I have barely enough income from SS to cover a cheap rent nothing more.
Raising children did not pay into SS.
I am still working, will have to for as long as possible and then what?
I have never been on “the dole”,have been responsible and my government has
determined that I am disposable.
I read the HealthCare bill.
Be ready for the counselors who will come to talk with you about end of life solutions when your care becomes expensive and not available. It’s in the bill.
Sarah Palin’s “death squad” was not far off.Her timing was off but often it is.She scares me too.
I pray with my grandchildren”Please GOD let the good guys win”
Are any of them interested? Are any of them in Washington?
GOD help us !
I live surrounded by American Indian reservations and a state where most people only live up to 55 maybe 60 if healthy and they want to raise social security age? How is that possible, ethical or promising for those who don’t live that far in age.
Repeal this bill!!
