Obama to media, stop reporting "loud and shrillest voices"

Obama to media, stop reporting "loud and shrillest voices"

During the President’s live cabinet address today, Obama discussed the health care debate and pointed out tactics of the opposition.  He went on to state “The media can always be helpful by not giving all the attention to the loudest or shrillest voices .”

Did the president send a message to the media that they should further suppress the voice of opposition, by simply not reporting it?

As the voice of opposition continues to rise thru Tea Parties and Town Halls, the President’s approval ratings and support for his health care plan continue to drop.  It seems too coincidental that this message was sent out just days prior to the National Tea Party scheduled in D.C. on September 12, 2009.  Ironically, the president recently announced he will be attending a separate event in Minnesota on that same day.

One guess which event will be covered by the media?

    Chet: Nice post.
Lynn – Ginny – sad: This comment is about imbalanced coverage of a vocal minority. Note in Chet’s post the President says “The media can always be helpful by not giving ALL the attention to the loudest or shrillest voices.” I added the emphasis on the word “ALL” to reinforce the point. The president is saying the media can be helpful by covering the voice of the majority at least as much as a very vocal minority. I am certain that you agree with the President in this regard, although I suspect you disagree in regard to who is the small group, and who is the under-covered large group.

  5. PJ says:

Sure – everyone likes to think their viewpoint represents the silent majority. Even President Bush sought to “Set the Record Straight” so that voices of opposition from the “vocal minority” could not be mischaracterized and spread by the “liberal media”.

  6. CR says:

PJ- that is not at all what the President said. After all, we have ABC, NBC, CBS ,MSNBC, and CNN ,as well as the Washington Post, New York Times, Boston Globe, Chicago Tribune and LA Times just to name a few that absulutely refuse to air or print anything negative regarding Obama.
    You call that “balanced”?
