While the landslide of skepticism and outrage continues to increase as a result of the ACORN investigation provided by James O’Keefe and Hannah Giles, our government is finally paying attention.
As the White House tries to distance itself from the activist group, this may be the biggest bi-partisan effort to take place since Obama took office in January.
After Big Government broke the story, and the first few video’s were made public that exposed the corrupt activity of ACORN, the Census Bureau made a statement and proclaimed that it was cutting ties with the community organization group. Now, both the Senate and the House have voted to defund the group.
Big Government has obtained the full text of the amendment–technically a “motion to recommit” to defund ACORN. The “Defund ACORN Act” passed the House this afternoon by an overwhelming margin of 345-75. The House vote comes just days after the Senate voted 83-7 to block ACORN from receiving federal housing grants. With these votes, 80% of the members of Congress have weighed in to block ACORN from receiving any more taxpayer dollars.
ACORN has been eligible to receive $8 billion of stimulus package money and has received more than 53 million in taxpayer dollars since 1994.
